Since being founded by Dr. Roger Strachan in 1973, Center for Creative Choice has been offering services that have empowered individuals to direct their lives with renewed meaning and deep intentionality, reaching high levels of life satisfaction. Strachan’s lifelong Self Soul Spirit work has now been further validated. Decades after our center’s inception, in 2013, Thomas Insel, who was at the time the head of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), declared that the APA’s Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM) of categorically predefined mental disorders is scientifically invalid. Many scientific papers have since continued to reinforce this observation of the invalidity of the DSM.

Since Insel’s major declaration, the NIMH has continued to pioneer a groundbreaking research approach called the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) that focuses on the complex interplay between nature and nurture in personality development. Having abandoned outdated models of pathology and diagnosis, the NIMH is exercising a sophisticated scientific approach. Center for Creative Choice has been applying the complex science of nature and nurture with clients for decades. We are thrilled to see research being published that continues to reinforce the strengths of our model.

Dr. Strachan has always approached his clients as unique human beings. He has never used the unscientific pathological categories of diagnosis or treatment. Because everyone is unique, fixed categories of diagnosis based on grouping people together have no meaning. In other words, given that our personalities stem from our predisposing factors of genetics and subsequent life-experiences, grouping people together with fixed labels is a non-starter. Instead, Self Soul Spirit has always operated under the aphorism “it is what it is, it’s what you do with it that matters.”

Applying a great breadth of knowledge from genetic research, gestalt therapy, humanistic psychology, developmental science, and his own applied model of psychology, Dr. Strachan ensured that Center for Creative Choice fostered the notion that every human being deserves the dignity and respect of going through their own process of self-discovery and understanding. As such, we have stood by the principle that it behooves each of our clients to apply their understanding of their unique selves to living their lives, discovering their own values and manifesting their values through engaged living. Studies in consciousness, genetics, and personality development, are continuing to provide tremendous scientific evidence and deductive modeling for the very work Center for Creative Choice has been doing for decades. That work is based on an understanding of the interplay between genetics, life experiences, and the global processes of consciousness.

Our process here at Center for Creative Choice honors the realities of human uniqueness, genetic predispositions, developmental unfolding, and life experiences. Ultimately, our creative choices about how to live our lives can be empowered by our Soul’s and the consciousness which resides within our very being. Our special process of inquiry and collaboration between client’s and facilitators supports each unique human to make meaningful choices and to live intentionally.
